Spaces Born from Empathy: The Socially Engaged Practice of Portuguese Ateliermob
<pA few years ago in Budapest, Portuguese architect, urban planner, and university professor Tiago Mota Saraiva gave a talk at a professional Pecha Kucha night about how redesigning homes destroyed in the 2017 forest fires helped traumatised residents heal. For his Lisbon-based collective Ateliermob, architecture is more than just building — it’s a tool for creating a better future for communities who cannot afford conventional architectural services. We visited them in Portugal and spoke with Tiago, the managing director, about what it means to design for the 99%.</p
