Orbán, who adopted a subservient position towards the Russians and engaged in confrontation with the EU, was useful to Moscow. As the new government does not wish to sever all economic ties, the Russian leadership quickly came to view the Tisza cabinet as a suitable partner for pragmatic relations. They, however, chose to ignore Magyar’s statements on the war in Ukraine.
